Words Cannot Describe....

You may be asking yourself "why is Lauren doing a post at 5:40 am?"

Well let me tell you....

I have been up since 4 am with a very sick baby, a baby with major sinus pressure. I know this is all fairly new (because for 23 of the past 26 years of my life I was used to getting AT LEAST 8 straight hours of sleep a night), but I have just grown custom to be woken up randomly throughout the night for the past 2 years to whimpers, coughs, wakefulness, crankiness and fevers from my child....I have also learned that I will probably NEVER get a good nights sleep again (at least until Cannon is in college- and then I will still worry until he is married and safe at home instead of being out all night- and by then I will probably be going through menopause and not sleep anyways). Well, let me tell you about my poor baby waking me up....and by baby I mean HUSBAND! That's right, Cannon (who is on antibiotics for a sinus infection) is still wonderfully asleep in his room, while I am WIDE AWAKE because my OTHER baby (love you Brian) woke up with sinus pressure in his ears and head.

The past few nights, Brian has had a hard time falling asleep because his ears hurt him and he is having lots of congestion and headaches. Cannon is sick, so I know there is something going around. Brian and I went to the Dr's yesterday morning for check-ups, and Brian forgot to mention the fact that he has been waking up the past few nights with major pain. I have been telling Brian to take Advil, blow his nose, use the saline spray that i just picked up (specifically for this purpose), give a little tug on his ears to relieve pressure and that he should feel a lot better. Brian did not say anything to the Dr (who would have told him the same thing that I did) and he did not listen to any my advice either (I mean, what do I know- I don't have a PHD)

So Brian wakes me up at 4 am acting like the world as we know it is over. He is freaking out that his ears hurt. He can hear his heart beat in his head. When I try to tell him what to do or ask him questions out of sympathy, he claims that he cannot hear me because his ears are about to explode (though he did hear me enough to answer with a snarky comment). He said the pain felt like taking an ice pick to his ears. He had me so freaked out that he had a brain tumor or something, I was about to wake Cannon and drive him to the ER. I don't know how his pain tolerance is, but by this time I was wide awake and feeling horrible that I previously really just had wanted to sleep. What a horrible wife I am, my husband is in obvious pain and all I can think about is my soft/warm bed. So I tell him what to do and he ignores me because he cant "hear me". I go to the computer and research what I can do to help relieve him of his impending head explosion, and I come up with the same information that I had been telling him (about the spray, blowing the nose....etc)

Here is how the conversation went-

(Not a Dramatization)

To add the proper effects:

the voice of Lauren will be played by Angelina Jolie

the voice of Brian will be played by Gilbert Gottfried (cue whiny voice)

Scene- Brian pacing frantically around the living room holding his head, talking loud because he can't hear while Lauren sits at the computer researching different medical sites

Me: "Brian honey, it says here that you shouldn't sniff in- you should blow your nose. You should also use that spray I got you honey. I promise it will help relieve the pressure. Take an Advil for the inflammation, that should help with your headache as well. Lightly pull your earlobe down to relieve some of the pressure as well."

Brian: "What will that do?!?!! I don't get it?"

Me: "Honey, I also just read that if you softly tap your head or flick it, it will help relieve pressure- like you would with a soda can that is about to explode. Its called the soda can tap"

Brian: (punches himself in the head a few times) "That doesn't help!!!"

Me: "Brian honey, you can't PUNCH a soda can and expect it to help. That would just cause more pressure AND dent the soda can. Now you will have 2 problems with that soda can"

Brian: "My head is going to explode, I need urgent care!!"

Me: "Babe, I have been telling you for years that you should not be 'sniffing in' but instead 'blow out' your nose when you are congested. You learn these things when you are like 6. Please go blow your nose and use the spray. I've only seen you blow your nose like once or twice in the past 5 years. Just trust me. Sniffing in just makes things worse. It can lead to an infection."

Brian: "Fine! But its NOT GOING TO WORK" (Brian then runs off to blow his nose and spray it)

:Cue dramatic music and sounds of nose blowing followed by many sprays:

Brian: "Wow, my ears don't hurt anymore"

Me: "See honey. That wasn't too hard. You just need to listen every once and a while. Don't be so overly dramatic"

(I asked him to 'tap' his head and he decided to 'punch' his head...you get the idea of how overly dramatic he can be- ALSO- when I asked him to 'tug' his ear down, I thought he was going to rip the darn thing off).

Me: "Now go lay down with some tissue and your spray by the bed. Give your ear a little tug for the drainage. Its 5:20 now. You can go back to sleep and still get about 2 more hours before you need to get up for work"

Brian: (tugs his ears and is asleep with little to no pain within a matter of 2 minutes)

Lauren: (WIDE AWAKE and decided to do a blog while both Cannon and Brian are asleep.....)

Oh the joys of being a mother AND a wife. I sometimes feel like I have 2 kids :)

Now you may be sitting at your computer wondering why you just read this novel.....what is the moral of this story? The moral of this story is just to show that I am ALWAYS right and very self sacrificing when it comes to my family, and that certain people BRIAN should listen to me the first dang time, instead of wasting another hour or 2 and causing enough commotion- I thought he was going to need an ambulance and a brain transplant.

(PS- I am going to try to fall back asleep now, and I can PROMISE you that Cannon will probably wake me up 20 minutes after I have just barely fallen asleep)

Un-American

Hi, this is a Lauren post (Brian is all giddy about posting on our family blog now, I have to clarify who the author is)

So for almost the past 5 years of knowing my husband, he has found little bits and pieces here and there to make fun of me for. In light of the Oscars being tomorrow, I will highlight his favorite topic.... my lack of seeing great American movies. For this, he calls me "un-American" and here is why-

I have not seen:

Top Gun
Field of Dreams
Casablanca
The Wizard of Oz
The Princess Bride (until recently)
Independence Day
Any of the Harry Potters
Terminator
The God Father
Jaws
Ben-Hur
Gone with the Wind
NONE of the Indiana Jones
Citizen Kane
It's a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Story
Back to the Future
Vacation
Friday the 13ths or Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloweens

...... just to name a few......

Now my comment section is open for mockery. Brian thinks that it is a crime to not see some of these movies- I just never had the interest!

Oscars Time!

(Lauren wants me to put a disclaimer that this post is not hers, it is mine Brian W Perry. The opinions and views expressed in the interviews and/or commentaries are solely of the individuals and are not the views of thatsaprettylaugh.blogspot.com, its parent, affiliate, or subsidiary companies. Or in more simple terms Lauren.)
Alright, since I am sooo overly busy at work and everybody and their dog is buying construction estimating and accounting software, I had some time to print off the Official Oscars Ballot. So with all of my limited time I decided to go ahead and let you know my predictions for who is winning what. I can't wait to watch the Oscars and see you will win what. (Actually I only care to see if Heath Ledger wins for his role in "The Dark Knight"). I also want to add that I am excited to see someone else host the Oscars other than Jon Stewart, he's done it like fifteen times I swear. You know what, in all reality, I don't care to see the Oscars this year because I don't think there were any movies that were truly amazing (except Heath's performance). But I am really bored and its lunch time so here I go!

Leading Actor should go to Brad Pitt for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". Now even though I have not seen this movie I still think that he deserves it. Runner up is Frank Langella for "Frost/Nixon". I haven't seen this movie either but I heard it was great.

Supporting Actor has to go to Heath Ledger for "The Dark Knight". If he doesn't get it, then I will have lost all faith in The Academy. His performance was so good that the movie should have been called "The Joker". Also, a little tid-bit of info, Heath got so into character that he felt that he was actually losing his grip on reality and that is why he was taking the pills that actually ended up killing him. If he wins, wait...what am I talking about...when he wins, I can't wait to see who will accept the award, his father, girlfriend, or daughter. (I'm pulling for his daughter). Runner up is Robert Downey Jr. just because he's all that and a bag of chips! I love that guy!

I could just end right here but there's a few more categories that I want to predict the winners. I won't make any predictions on documentaries, short films, or foreign, because nobody watches them and nobody cares including me.

Leading Actress should go to Anne Hathaway for "Rachel Getting Married". I haven't seen the movie again like most of these, but I know enough about them to make an educated prediction. She played a character that is out of the ordinary for her, so I think it should go to her. Runner up is Meryl Streep for "Doubt". I mean really, can you go against Meryl? No probably not.

Supporting Actress will go to Amy Adams for "Doubt". Again I haven't seen this one, but I like her. Runner up is Marisa Tomei for "The Wrestler" just because "The Wrestler" needs to win something.

Animated Feature is "WALL-E" just because Lauren and Cannon and I like it.

Cinematography is "Slumdog Millionaire" just because, I don't really know. Runner up is "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button".

Directing will go to "Frost/Nixon" because you can't go up against Ron Howard and win, he's one of the best! Runner Up is "Slumdog Millionaire".

Makeup is "The Dark Knight" because Heath looked freaky as did Aaron Eckhart. Runner Up is "Hellboy II" just because that had to have taken forever to make them look like that.

Visual Effects "Iron Man" I mean come on its cool.

Screenplay will probably go to "Milk" because you have to let the gay movie win something, and if you're gay, I apologize but that's unfair for a movie to get an Oscar just because its about a gay guy. Runner Up is "WALL-E" again because I liked it.

Last but not least...Best Picture is "Frost/Nixon" because of the way it was filmed, the acting, directing, and history behind it. Runner Up will be "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button".

So there you have it, my picks for the Oscars. I don't know how accurate I will be, but I usually am fairly accurate at this. So if you have found this post interesting in any amount, please let me know because I like to think of myself as quite the movie critic and have been thinking about starting a blog about movies. I have just been throwing the idea around and if I get a big enough response I will start one. Now I must do a disclaimer in that I think that most movie Critics suck at what they do, and don't say what people want to read about, so I will take a different direction and only talk about the stuff in the movies that the general public want to hear about. Please let me know because this would give me an excuse to see more movies, which I would love to do.

And don't forget to watch the Oscars this Sunday the 22nd!

(By the way, Brian did this post, not Lauren)

Dr. Feel Good (NOT!!)

I have been taking been taking better care of my teeth the past 6 months since I started going to my new dentist (remember the McDreamy post last year). I never really took "bad" care of my teeth, but I have started flossing TWICE a day instead of once or missing a day here and there. I have also been religiously using mouth wash (which I hate). I just wanted to be able to tell Dr. McDreamy that I have done so well, I am flossing twice a day...blah blah blah... and here him compliment me on my beautiful teeth (like he did 6 months ago). Well, it turns out I had my FIRST cavity at my appointment this past week. When you start to take better care of your teeth, shouldn't you avoid things like getting a cavity?

So I go to see McDreamy again a few days later to get my small cavity worked on. He numbs my mouth and 10 minutes later starts to drill (all well making small talk of course). Needless to say, the talking wore off quick because my little tooth felt so much pain from the drill. He gave me another shot to numb and started small talk to wait for it to spread. Once he realized I couldn't feel my tongue or bottom lip, he started to drill....and I started to cry because I felt everything again. Long story terrible, 4 SHOTS LATER- he started to drill and I by then I was just in tears. I was completely numb from my nose to my neck....but I still felt such pain on that little tooth. He said he has never seen a body respond to Novocaine like that. He kept apologizing to me and I just looked at him like McTorture instead of McDreamy. There was not much else he could do, so I just had to squeeze down on the arm chair while he drilled into my not-numb tooth. I was in so much pain I bit my tongue and bloodied it because I could feel nothing. I told him how when I was in labor with Cannon, my epidural failed and only managed to numb a 5 inch radius on my right thigh- and that the Dr's didn't realize that for about 12 hours until I was shaking and hysterically crying from the pain of my contractions.

Why does my body respond HORRIBLY to medications that are supposed to numb and make you relaxed? One will never know the true answer to that question, for I must be a medical mystery.

Needless to say, my Dr. isn't very McDreamy to me anymore....
